Allen was one of the founding employees of Byers Engineering Company, starting with the firm in 1971. He has managed both the firm’s Records and Engineering Services Divisions, becoming the President of the Engineering Services Division in 1984. While managing the Engineering Services Division, Allen diversified the company’s business lines by adding underground locating to the firm's catalogue of services. When this unit, now known as UtiliQuest, was spun off in 1998, Allen became President and CEO of the new entity, leading it to its standing as the largest and most profitable such company in the nation, with annual revenues of more than $100 million and 1,800 employees in 17 states.
As SpatialAge® Solutions Division President, Allen oversees the management of client relations, technical services and product development, and is responsible for the division's financial performance. Allen has earned a BIE degree from Georgia Tech and an MBA from Georgia State. He has served on numerous boards at Georgia Tech, including a term as President of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association.
