| Project Kickoff
In the process of transforming, reconciling, and loading
data, the Data Services Group uses the following data
analysis and planning tools:
- Source records analysis
- Data source-to-target mapping
- Estimates of data quantities and error percentages
- Sensitivity cost modeling
- Migration planning
- Data warehouse implementation
Data Toolkit
Then, based on the data sources, data targets, and
requirements, we apply the appropriate processes to
transform, clean, and load the data:
- Geocoding
- Georeferencing schematic data
- Correcting network connectivity
- Logically deriving new features
- Data validation
- Field inventory
- GPS capture
- Updating work order/service order backlog
- Loading inside plant database
- Loading assignment systems, circuit data, and fiber
management systems
- Loading plan data
- Key field matching
- Vectorizing
- Digitizing
- Data conditioning and purification
- Populating data warehouses from legacy data
TRCS One-Step ConversionTechnology
Application of Real World Experience
As an engineering firm, we have extensive knowledge
of outside plant facilities and records, and understand
the need for delivering credible data to end-users.
We apply our engineering experience and philosophy throughout
all of our geospatial projects. This real-world experience
has driven the development of SpatialAge TRCS™
One-Step Conversion software. With delivered accuracy
rates, which exceed client requirements, our conversion
system helps to manage and plan for all aspects of the
conversion process.
The TRCS/3 data conversion system includes: comprehensive
project methodology, cost and resource estimating, capacity
planning, scheduling, performance tracking, ongoing
project cost projections, statistical quality assurance
metrics, and documented work procedures.
SpatialAge Solutions’ mapping expertise
extends to: base mapping, addition of new land acquired
through fly-overs, overlaying existing land and facilities
to other grids and land sources, and the updating of
commercially available land from sources such as Geographic
Data Technology (GDT).
Advantages of TRCS One-Step Conversion Software
SpatialAge TRCS One-Step Conversion Software:
- Captures data from a variety of digital and manual
sources;
- Validates and verifies data as the technician enters
it;
- Provides custom definition of forms and fields;
- Can be customized by a user without programming
skills;
- Has simplified translation and validation of existing
legacy files;
- Enables multiple technicians to work in the same
area;
- Enables the user to build databases and load into
any GIS format;
- Reduces time-consuming text entry;
- Increases quality by reducing opportunities for
error;
- Reduces overall end-to-end costs;
- Allows for full or incremental (phased) conversion;
and
- Includes productivity and quality metrics.
Process Design
We perform a source record analysis to determine the
best combination of manual and digital sources required
to meet the client’s specifications. A project
overview is outlined defining the overall workflow from
receiving and logging sources to final QA and delivery.
Expert Work Session
The key to the project design process is the development
of an “expert work session,” which has Knowledge
Mapping at its core. We design a prototype work session
that our technicians then test. Following a design review,
we document software and procedures based on techniques
recommended by these expert technicians, then fine-tune
the process by modeling expert behavior, and automating
where business rules apply, which results in reducing
user-actions.
In developing an expert work session, we rely on the
expertise of knowledgeable technicians and use intelligent
software rather than inexperienced labor and assembly
line techniques. With each operator being fully responsible
for a geographic area, we achieve a much higher first
run quality than in a production line environment.
Continuous Improvement
As new ideas come in from weekly production and quality
review meetings with our production employees, we document
changes in the process design and use a control group
to test these changes. If the change is beneficial -
that is, if the change results in lower costs, greater
quality, and/or higher production - we implement the
new process for the entire project and share the lowered
costs with the client.
